Actually, that's a lie. No elections. I just haven't relinquished the chair yet.
Welcome to Granite Curling Club!
This is the New Member's Guide, a series of articles that were created to help our new curlers get started with curling at GCC. Curling can feel a bit intimidating at first, but we hope to address some of your questions and concerns here. You also will find that curlers are a very social and welcoming lot and are eager to answer your questions and explain things.
The end of summer is soon approaching, and we're pleased to announce that league registration for the 2016-2017 curling season is now open!
A fun way to kick off your weekend with players of all experience levels. The late games, plus after-game festivities, run well past midnight.
Open to all curlers under 21 years of age - we pick this league by default for all Junior members.
A friendly, semi-competitive league that's great for curlers who have a year or more of experience. The league divides into flights midway through the season based on win/loss records, so teams should have great, competitive games throughout the season.
A full-season, competitive Mixed Doubles league, for curlers who are looking to compete at high levels in Mixed Doubles. Not for Mixed Doubles beginners or new curlers.
A great league if you have a flexible work schedule, are a stay-at-home parent, or are retired and have a few hours to spare. It's a great league for curlers of all abilities and is very welcoming to brand new curlers. The curling is followed by lunch and you can be on your way by no later than 1:00PM. Some lunches follow a seasonal theme like Thanksgiving, Valentine's Day, or St Patrick's Day but most are just a plain old hardy lunch to enable you to socialize with your fellow curlers and then get you on your way for the balance of your day.
A great social league for women that has a wide range of skill levels. Come in either as a fully-formed team, or as an individual. Teams take turns providing dinner for the league.
