It’s time for spring league registration. The board has already given the go ahead for spring leagues, so they are definitely happening this year. We are currently offering four leagues; Monday, Wednesday, and Friday evenings, plus Thursday morning. All spring leagues are appropriate for all skill levels and are a format similar to the main season Friday Open league (teams allowed at manager’s discretion, individuals will be placed on teams). If you have any questions about the leagues please e-mail email@example.com.
Washington men, Minnesota women, win 2014 Club Nationals
(STEVENS POINT, Wis.)
Joel Larway (Lynnwood, Wash.) led his Washington foursome, with Benj Guzman (Everett, Wash.), Peter Sommer (Carnation, Wash.) and Chad Siefert (Seattle) to the championship by dominating Massachusetts' Peter Bialek rink, 8-2. Bialek (Billerica, Mass.) Adam Jacobson (Westborough, Mass.), Dan Naylor (also of Billerica) and Daniel Cho (Providence, R.I.). A Washington men's team also won the title last year.
Brady Clark, Cristin Clark, Derrick McLean, and Bev Hale made it tough on themselves and needed some help from other teams, but the Clark/Clark/Hale dynasty rolls on as they took yet another state mixed championship. Clark et al. dropped both their games on Saturday, then won both their games on Sunday to force a sudden death tie-breaker on Monday. The other two teams Michael Calcagno, Marissa Wright, Andrea Callegari, Laura Yee, Sharon Vukich and Lyle Sieg, Miyo Konno, Peter Sommer, Jennifer Westhagen, Travis Way also had 2-2 records in the double round-robin.
While most of the Northwest region focused their attention on a certain football team playing in a game this weekend 3,000 miles from Seattle, a local curling team won a National Championship on their home ice in North Seattle. Jake Vukich (Seattle), Evan McAuley (Sammamish, Wash.), Luc Violette (Granite Falls, Wash.), and Kyle Lorvick (Seattle) won the 2014 US Curling Junior Men's National Championship on Saturday morning at the Granite Curling Club, earning a spot to represent the United States at the World Junior Curling Championship, February 26-March 5 in Flims, Switzerland.
