Rentals

The curling club is available for rentals for many occasions: office parties, birthdays, a group get together or any other reason to have fun.

Below are some questions and answers about renting out the club.  You can also email David Cornfield and he will be happy to answer any questions.

What is the cost of a rental?

The cost of the rental is $20/per person with a $500 minimum. $100 of that is used as a deposit when the reservation is made. Instructors from the Granite Curling Club will teach you how to curl and cost $25 per instructor. It is recommended to have one instructor per 6 to 8 people.

What does that cost include?

The fees include use of the ice and facility for up to four consecutive hours. This includes the brooms, rocks and everything else that is needed to curl.

When is the club available for rental?

We only have ice from mid-September through late-April each year.
Once curling leagues begin play in mid October, rentals are available:

· Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons - typically from 11- 3pm

· A very limited number of Saturday afternoons and evenings (all Saturday rental sessions for the 2007/2008 season have already been booked).

Pre-season (mid-September to mid-October) and post-season (mid- to late-April) we have afternoon, evening and weekend rentals available.

Are there any age limits? Can kids or teens curl?

All curlers under 18 years of age MUST HAVE an insurance waiver signed by a parent or guardian before going on the ice. If a parent isn't coming to the rental, you can download and print "Junior Waiver 9-03.pdf" and send the signed waiver with the child.

Typically, kids need to be 8 years old to have a chance of getting a rock into play. On the ice, an adult should accompany children under 10.

What if more or less people show up than we planned?

There is a $100 deposit, the balance is paid after the rental and that amount is determined by the number of people who actually attended (subject to the $500 minimum) .

Is there a bar?

Yes. There is a full bar with liquor, beer and soda. Please let us know if you would like a bartender during your rental.

How much does the bar cost?

It is a cash bar, so the normal prices apply. In addition to that there is a $50 charge for the bartender, and tips are of course appreciated. If you need a bartender you need to let us know at least a few days in advance so we can make the proper arrangements. We require at least $100 of business in the bar, this is generally not a problem on the weekends and usually comes in to question during weekdays.

Instead of a bartender, can we just bring in beer and wine?

Of course. We ask that you obtain a temporary banquet permit which can be purchased at any liquor store.

Are there tables and chairs?

Yes. There are five tables and chairs that seat up to 40 people already set up with other tables and chairs ready to be set up if needed.

Can we hire a caterer to bring food?

Yes. There is a full kitchen available for use.

What is the address of the curling club?

1440 N 128th St
P.O. Box 33057
Seattle, WA 98133

What should people wear?

Participants should:

· carry in a pair of shoes with clean, flat, rubber soles with no metal hooks etc. that could scratch the ice. (tennis shoes are ideal)

· wear comfortable loose fitting clothing. (it is difficult to curl in tight jeans)

· dress in layers (initially it will be chilly on the ice, but you can get quite warm up once you start playing)

I'm really interested in learning a little about curling before I sign up, where can I look?

Our website has information on curling History, Rules, Strategy and a Glossary.

How many sheets of ice do we need?

A game of curling happens between two teams of 3 or 4 players, so there is typically  a maximum of 8 people per sheet. There are five sheets in the club, so about 40 people can curl at once.

But, I only want to rent one sheet...

Sorry, we don't rent the sheets separately.

Do you have a calendar that I can look at?

Yes, please take a look at the Calendar page.

What methods of payment do you accept?

We accept VISA, MasterCard, check and of course cash.
