Brady Clark, Cristin Clark, Derrick McLean, and Bev Hale made it tough on themselves and needed some help from other teams, but the Clark/Clark/Hale dynasty rolls on as they took yet another state mixed championship. Clark et al. dropped both their games on Saturday, then won both their games on Sunday to force a sudden death tie-breaker on Monday. The other two teams Michael Calcagno, Marissa Wright, Andrea Callegari, Laura Yee, Sharon Vukich and Lyle Sieg, Miyo Konno, Peter Sommer, Jennifer Westhagen, Travis Way also had 2-2 records in the double round-robin.
While most of the Northwest region focused their attention on a certain football team playing in a game this weekend 3,000 miles from Seattle, a local curling team won a National Championship on their home ice in North Seattle. Jake Vukich (Seattle), Evan McAuley (Sammamish, Wash.), Luc Violette (Granite Falls, Wash.), and Kyle Lorvick (Seattle) won the 2014 US Curling Junior Men's National Championship on Saturday morning at the Granite Curling Club, earning a spot to represent the United States at the World Junior Curling Championship, February 26-March 5 in Flims, Switzerland.
Now you can make reservations for our open houses. Please visit our Open Houses page to book a timeslot for our open houses in January and February 2014. Please make sure your entire group arrives about 15 minutes before your reserved time. No more waiting an hour or more at the club to get on the ice!
Walk-ins are still welcome, but reservations take first priority. We'll fit in any walk-ins as we have space.
Em Good, Jennifer Westhagen, Christie Wilhelmy, Hannah Volkman, and Jill Lamberts defeated Miyo Konno, Kris Ikegami, Claire Bonin, and Jiyoung Lee 3-1 in a best of five series to take the women's state club championship. Joel Larway, Benj Guzman, Peter Sommer, and Chad Siefert took the men's by defeating Doug Kauffman, John Rasmussen, Liam Barksdale, Andrea Callegari, and Bill Rugen in a second playoff game after the three teams played a double round-robin to a three-way tie.
If you didn't play in this year's Holiday Spiel you missed a fun one. We had 32 teams with some old and new friends joining us from B.C, Oregon and California, plus we had some of the best holiday looks to date.
Brady Clark, Sean Beighton, Philip Tilker, and Darren Lehto took home $2,500 by winning the Seattle Cash Spiel on Thanksgiving weekend. The runners-up were Jeff Richard, Tom Shypitka, Jay Wakefield, and David Harper from Kewlowna.
The board would like to remind everyone that the Granite Curling Club has a no pets policy for the interior of the club. This is for reasons of health, safety and liability. Please do not bring your pets into the club. Service animals are an exception to this policy, of course.
